Hair Electrolysis Removal Industry News

STAGES OF HAIR GROWTH

Anagen Stage:  The hair begins its growth cycle. It will emerge from the skin relatively fine and weak. After about two weeks the hair will coarsen and rapidly increase the growth rate. The follicle unit has ample moisture and electrolyte (in the form of sodium chloride) to conduct electricity for the purpose of destructions.

Catagen Stage:  The hair has reached full maturity (length and girth). At this time the papilla will detach from the shaft and begin to atrophy (to about 1/20th of its mature anagen size). It will create a hard and extremely resistant “cornification” barrier, which will last throughout the dormant stage. This resistant barrier makes electrolysis very difficult and impractical. The cells which need to be destroyed are virtually shielded by the cornification wall and the follicle unit itself completely dries out (leaving very little moisture and electrolyte for conductivity of the electrolysis current).

Telogen Stage:  The hair is rejected from the skin and falls out. The follicle pore shrivels up to nothing more than a tiny pock. Electrolysis is impossible in this state. No tissues are vulnerable nor is there moisture or electrolytes present for the administration of electric current. This is also know as the “resting” phase. It can last as little as a few weeks, to many months.

Epidermis: Outer layer of skin.
Root: The part of the hair within the follicle.hair follicle
Follicle: Tube-like inversion of the skin through which the hair reaches the surface.
Sebaceous Gland: Oil glands inside the skin which lubricate and coat the hair.
Arrector (pili) Muscle: A very tiny muscle which is responsible for making the hair stand up.
Bulb: The outer sheath of the papilla matrix. This is the portion which cornifies after the completion of the hair growth (anagen) cycle.
